WHAT HAPPENS DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT?
Our first appointment will take approximately 1 hour, so when booking please book for 1 hour. Subsequent appointments will be between 20 and 30 minutes. Your first treatment will be at your first appointment.

During the first appointment a detailed history of the reason why you are coming to the practice, along with a medical history and the medications you are taking both prescribed and over the counter as well being asked if you have any allergies . You may be asked if there is a family history of various diseases.

The acupuncture needles used in this practice are single used and sterile.
Safety glasses are provided for treatment with lasers to protect your eyes.
You will be examined which may include taking your blood pressure in addition to the examination regarding the issue you have presented with.
A plan for treatment will be discussed with you. Sue encourages you to be actively involved in informed decision making and your own care.
You may be given a chart to chart your progress to bring in to each appointment to monitor how you are faring.

If there are "red flags" (worrying symptoms and signs that warrant further medical investigation) it may be appropriate to refer you back to your General Practitioner / Specialist with a letter from Dr Sue Beutum or to be referred for further investigations should you not have a general practitioner.

In chronic pain and other conditions, cure may not be possible, however, the aim of treatment will be to reduce pain and increase your function and capacity and to have a better quality of life.
​
The number of treatments varies depending on whether your problem is acute or chronic. Acupuncture may be once or twice a week.
Approximately 30% of people do not respond to acupuncture and if this is the case, Dr Beutum will suggest that you seek other management of your problem.
Fees
This practice does not bulk bill.
​
Pensioners and health care card holders are billed at a reduced fee.
​
All consultations are rebatable by Medicare for those who hold a Medicare card.
​
An EFTPOS terminal is available and the capacity to refund direct from Medicare to your own account may be possible on the day of your appointment.
